2023-2024 Board of Directors

Voting for the Watauga Community Housing Trust Board of Directors is now complete.

Between September 1st and September 8th, Watauga Community Housing Trust held an election through our Membership to choose new Directors for the organization’s Board. Here are the results of our first election:

Election Notes

  • 17 total votes were cast in this election for 4 board candidates. After accepting and signing an agreement to abide by the organization’s bylaws, candidates will begin their two-year terms as Directors. Directors take an active role coordinating WCHT’s Working Groups to manage our all-volunteer organization.

  • Using ranked-choice voting, voters selected their top picks for board candidates. With more open seats than candidates, all candidates received enough votes to be elected.

  • This first election was used to create the process by which our annual elections will be held. In summer 2024 and each following summer, a new election will be held, building on this process.

  • While we are starting small, the goal of this process is to create a transparent and democratic process to make the organization’s leadership responsive, active, and accountable to the neighborhoods and communities WCHT serves.

  • Read more details on the WCHT 2023 election process here. If you are interested in volunteering with WCHT to build this part of the organization up, contact us with the Working Group form or by email. Thank you!

Board Member Information

Watauga Community Housing Trust is a member-led and volunteer-run organization. 'Volunteer-run' means we have no paid staff, and our actions are coordinated by our board, working group leaders, and participating volunteers. 'Member-led' means that our voting membership elects our Board of Directors and sets our organizational priorities each year.

With no paid staff, our board of directors takes a more active role in acting as the organization's representatives, and facilitating working groups to progress the organization's goals.  The Board of Directors meets monthly, but during fundraising campaigns or time-based projects may meet more frequently as needed. Directors also take an active role in at least one Working Group, which meet monthly as well, and work as time allows to accomplish specific projects throughout the month.

Expect approximately 5-10 hours of volunteer time a month while serving as a Director. This volunteer-run, member-led structure allows us to involve new community members not typically involved in nonprofit work, and ensure our leadership represents the will of the local community.

Elections for the Board of Directors occur every summer, with five board seats up for election each year. Please read below for information on nominating someone or yourself as a WCHT Board of Directors candidate.
